5 FREE Things You Can do This Week to Build Online Business

by Kathy on August 24, 2009

Would you like to build online business for free? Are you wondering how to start a business online? Well, you’re in the right place!

Starting your own online business can be fun, rewarding, and profitable. It will take time, but you’ll be happy to know that it doesn’t take a large financial investment.

In fact, you can begin to build online business for free, starting today! Below are 5 strategies that you can begin to implement right away!

  1. Create a Twitter Account

As with any business, running an online business is best accomplished once you’ve established a large social network. Today’s savvy marketers are using the Internet to do so, and Twitter is definitely the place to be to build online business!

Once used primarily as a means to communicate quickly with friends and family, this social media giant has grown in popularity as a free marketing tool.  As a result of the masses of people joining Twitter for help in running an online business, the site grew by 1,382% between Feb 2008 and Feb 2009.

Twitter offers great tutorials and a free sign up link at http://help.twitter.com/portal

Once you’re set up and using Twitter, the best way to build online business contacts is to target and follow about 100 people each day. You’ll want to connect with others who may be interested in your business; if you’re in the health and wellness field connect with others who are health conscious.

As you begin to follow others, a large majority of them will follow you back. Those who do not follow you can be deleted from your follow list. This is how you create a large following.

Having a large following, however, won’t help you build online business unless you can create relationships with your followers.  For some great tips on doing so, check out my post at http://kathyjodrey.com/what-is-twitter-spam/

  2. Get on Facebook

Like Twitter, Facebook is a viral and free social media site that can be very effective in helping you build online business.  Despite the fact that Facebook has been around for many years it is still gaining in popularity, with a 228% growth rate between Feb 2008 and Feb 2009.

Unlike Twitter, which limits the number of characters you can “tweet” to 140, Facebook allows you the opportunity to carry out full conversations.

Many social media marketers use both Twitter and Facebook to meet others and develop relationships, which is what I recommend that you do as well.  Be sure to follow the same rules of etiquette on Facebook as you do on Twitter, and you’ll find that over time you’ll have a large list of potential customers and business partners.

As with Twitter, your best approach is to add 100 followers each day. One important step that is missed by the majority of users is to include a personal message when you follow another user. Yes it is more time consuming but also offers a much more personal approach, which is the idea!

  3. Article Marketing

Article marketing can help to brand you and set you apart as a true expert in your field. It’s free, can be done in a short amount of time, and can draw unlimited numbers of visitors to your website to help you build online business.

Articles are meant to be helpful, inspirational, or entertaining to the reader, and are not to be used to promote yourself or your company directly. But authors who are running an online business are able to advertise themselves or their businesses in the Authors box.

As you begin to have articles posted you’ll find that when you give great content, your readers will click on your links, helping you to build online business.

Before you begin to use article marketing you’ll want to get more detailed information on my blog post at http://kathyjodrey.com/free-network-marketing-lead-generation-tip1/

  4. Tap Into Free Training to Build Online Business

Running an online business requires a mastery of many different Internet strategies. There’s a lot of free information on the Internet that can help you learn. It can be overwhelming and confusing, which is why I recommend that you choose one mentor rather than jumping from one to another.

When I was beginning to build online business I was signing up for everything I saw online. As a result my inbox was being flooded on a daily basis with so much information that I got stuck in information overload!

The dust finally cleared when I found Jonathan Budd. His free trainings go far above and beyond all of the “fluff” I had received, and I was able to make some sense of it all.

I found Jonathan’s free training videos to be so incredible that I am now offering them to my blog visitors. If you haven’t already received the trainings be sure to fill in the form on the right side of this page, to have the series emailed to you!

  5. Create a WordPress Blog

Let’s face it, in order to successfully build business online you need to separate yourself from the masses. You need to brand yourself, to let others get to know, like and trust you.Millions of people are driving online traffic to their company websites, which are all identical. What you need is an edge, something that sets you apart and positions you as an expert in your field.

Enter the blog. This is the most effective tool you will ever have to effectively build business online. Your Twitter and Facebook friends, and those who read your articles, will want to learn more about you. When you direct them to your personalized blog, rather than a cookie cutter company replicated website, you establish yourself as a true leader. And people follow leaders!

You’ll want to setup your blog with http://www.wordpress.org. Not only does this site offer free blogs, but it’s the only blog site that offers you full ownership. What that means to you is that your site will never be at the mercy of a company that could at any time “pull the plug” on your business.

Running an online business should be seen as a marathon, not a sprint to the finish line. It takes time and for most, a learning curve. My advice is to “eat the elephant one bite at a time”. If you use this philosophy to build business online, commit yourself to taking action, and do everything possible to learn the principles of online marketing, your business will flourish!
