Abundance of Money AND Religion: Can They Co-Exist?

Posted by Kathy · 16 Comments

Many of us have been taught that an abundance of money and religion are mutually exclusive of one another. In other words, it’s impossible for us to live a truly spiritual life while at the same time being financially prosperous.

Take for example the Bible quote which most of us have heard over and over throughout our lives, “money is the root of all evil”. Did you know that the actual  Bible verse 1 Timothy 6: 7-10 states, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil”?

You see, God wants us to be prosperous, just as we ourselves want that for our own children. What he does not want is for us to desire an abundance of money more than we desire our own spirituality and all that entails.

I’m focusing on the subject of money and religion here because many of us are carrying around blocks to our success that we may not even be aware of. It’s time to recognize those blocks, become free from their limiting effects on our lives, and prosper as God and the Universe have intended.

Check out the short video above, which I shot just last week while on an extravagant, relaxing, fun-filled cruise (which by the way I deserved)! Sorry for the poor lighting, I was under the stars..

Are abundance of money and religion mutually exclusive of one another, or does God want us to Prosper?

    Kathy,
Great video, Kathy!! Thanks for the reminder that taking action to create prosperity is in full alignment with the universe and what is intended for all of us. You are so right that everyone has opportunities and should take action to turn those opportunities into an abundant and prosperous life.

great Video Kathy, and such a great message.
it really came home to me that most people don’t believe
that God wants them to be prosperous.
I have also had a fortunate life living in Australia for
which I am very grateful for.
thank you for a great article

    Hey Kathy!
Hope you enjoyed your well deserved cruise. There’s no better way to unwind and get in touch with our spirituality than on the open seas. You bring a good message here. We can maintain our spirituality and prosperity together. Reading this post reminded me of the scripture which says “Beloved, I wish above all things that you prosper, and be in health.” Health and prosperity are the two things God desires most for us “above all things” (3 John 1:2). Good message, thanks for sharing (and taking time to shoot a video on your cruise) :-)

You’re bang on with this post Kathy. So many people are carrying around blocks surrounding money. There is absolutely no question about that. Who’s to blame them really … with so many nay-sayers and misinformed beliefs out there.
Awareness is the first step in overcoming these limiting beliefs. Eric is bang on too … life is about having BOTH. I love it.
    Great food for thought Kathy.
    Thanks.

I’ve found that, regardless of their religion, a surprisingly HUGE number of people live in a poverty consciousness. They have some ingrained belief, that is often difficult to unwire, that piety requires poverty. Where did we get this belief that somehow a loving divinity is not best served by our having the wonders of the world to share with others? We are most useful to the divine when we stand in our fullest strength. Thank you for the reminder. Bless you!

Hi Kathy! How nice of you to take time on your cruise to share with us. Hope you are having a great time.

In the midst of our blessings, it is a good thing to be mindful of those less fortunate. Our thoughts right now are especially with the people in Haiti. I believe the reason we are blessed is so we will have something to share with others. I’m not in favor of carrying the lazy, but many people meet disaster while they are doing their best. God loves to bless, and many times He does it through us!

Nice video Kathy. Glad you were thinking of us. The Pursuit Of Abundance, I believe, is not contrary to God’s intent… but rather, it is obligatory if we seek to merge our will with His. I enjoyed your perspective on this. Stay on The path, Kathy.

Very well said Kathy. I’ve thought many of the same things myself. I think the important thing is that people lend a helping hand to those who aren’t as fortunate as we are. I like to call it “sending the elevator back down”.

    Thanks Kathy!

Thank you for thinking of us while you were cruising the carribean ~ I hope that you thoroughly enjoyed your trip and I love that you know you deserved it! That really hits the point of what you’re saying here ~ you have to know you deserve it to achieve it!

So much heart and authenticity in this post ~ thank you, Kathy!

    Hi Kathy,

This is such a difficult issue and I understand how you can wonder…..But God does have a plan for you to flourish and to prosper. We can only take care of the things that are within our power. Great topic.
