My dirty little secret is out. I am happy to report that my problem is not drugs, alcohol, or nicotine, no need to take me to any drug rehab centers! With me, it’s junk food, and it’s been a lifelong struggle. The time for detoxification of body and mind has arrived, and I’m now in day 3.
Have you ever known you had to make a change in your life, and even wanted to WANT to make that change, but not had the mindset to make it happen? Well, that’s where I’ve been for the last few months and I have to tell you, I often feel like a hypocrite.
I mean really, “Achieve Health, Wealth and Inner Peace…then Pay it Forward”. That is my mantra, and if you’ve read about my struggles with rheumatoid arthritis disease you know that I’ve been able to turn my back on the pharmaceutical drugs that brought me back to health, and to overcome a debilitating chronic illness using totally natural solutions. So yes, my experiences have brought me to a place where I’m very grateful for my good health and value it perhaps more than some who tend to take it for granted.
Not only do I attribute my disease to a lifetime of poor eating habits, but intellectually I realize that I am likely to suffer more health problems if I don’t make a change. AND, I’m less than ignorant when it comes to what Jeff Olson has termed “the slight edge”.
So, what’s the problem? One word, addiction. One solution, detoxification of body.
In keeping with the perfection of the Universe, I’ve been getting hit on the head lately over and over with the concept of detoxification of body. It made sense, I knew that the right thing for me to do was to start a program to detox my body, and I kept eating crap. Until Monday morning.
Like any other day, I woke up, weighed myself, and brushed my teeth. Maybe it was the fact that I was using the natural toothpaste I had just purchased after having a discussion with a friend about the poisonous properties of brand name toothpaste (a story for another day…). Maybe it was that my weight was unacceptable to me. Maybe it was that I felt sick and tired of feeling lethargic. Probably a combination deal, but I knew that it was detoxification of body day 1.
There was no question, there was no inner grumbling, just knowing. Finally I had the proper mindset to detox my body and begin on a road to my best health! Mindset is everything!!
As I sat with my family at dinner, watching them eat the chicken parmesan I had prepared (one of my favorite meals…) my 16 year old son tried to start a pool to guess how long it would take me to cave – nice, right? After 16 years it’s hard to believe that he still doesn’t get that when I really believe in something I stick with it!
Here in day 3, I’m finding it easier than I ever would have expected. I’m not hungry, and have walked past a container of Goldfish on the counter several times today (I should probably put that away….). Honestly, the most difficult part has been drinking enough water.
If this post is part of the Universe hitting you over the head, and you’ve come to the point where your mindset is in the right place, you can find many plans online for detoxification of body. What I am doing is very simple – nothing but fruits, vegetables, water (8 glasses a day), and green tea for 7 days, which I will follow with a colon cleanse as a final step to detox my body. After that I’ll begin to add other healthy foods.
I’m sharing this confession and proclamation with you for a few reasons:
- There’s something about making a public declaration that helps to keep us accountable. Knowing that I will feel foolish if I publish this post then don’t follow through with it is just 1 of the many things that will keep me committed, even if the going gets rough.
- If this resonates with even just one person, who takes action to improve his or her life, it will be of value.
- The principles here can be taken into any and every aspect of your life, whether it’s detoxification of body, determination to do the next best thing for yourself, or any other fill in the blank goal that you wish to accomplish.
Do you have a public proclamation to make? If so, do yourself a favor share it with others. I invite you to use the comments section below this post to share your resolve with the online community. Remember, if you have the right mindset you can do anything.
Here’s to your health, wealth, and inner peace!

Kathy,
You are an inspiration. Bravo to you for stepping out and being transparent. I was just talking with Kary tonight about utilizing my blog as a tool of transparency to creating accountability in health. And, here you are confirming our conversation. I don’t need to be knocked over the head….I get it. A good detox sounds like a great plan to get started in de-junking the body. Where do I sign?

Kathy,
I am SOOOO PROUD of you!! Your strength and braveness is INSPIRING!!
Reading this article, I learned more about you than I ever expected…I LOVE your complete honesty!! You are doing GREAT, and I know you will continue to do great things in life as a result of going through this detox!!
Like you said “Mindset is everything!!” It definitely takes a strong mind to fight through any sort of urges with a detox. I am experiencing very a few urges here and there with my 30 day detox, but I have resisted and it is only making me stronger. “What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger!!”
Keep up the absolutely AWESOME WORK Kathy (both with your detox and on the blog), as you are truly an inspiration to us all!!
Take care and God Bless,

Kathy,
Congratulations! It’s a big commitment – taking your own self seriously. It really is. It’s amazing how much we can say yes, I SHOULD do whatever, but until that moment arrives – and sometimes it is just a matter and waiting for it – there’s no point, is there. Once you feel that shift, it’s easier, isn’t it.
Way to go!

Hey that’s a coincidence… I started an article with those very self same words… but I was an addict to misery and complaining!!
You’ve given me the idea to resuscitate that article and turn it into a blog post.. we (reformed) addicts have to stick together!!
Hey Kathy, hope you’re feeling better after the first couple days. This is a really big commitment and I applaud you for taking it on. I’m doing something now where you eat nothing but fruit until noon every day and sometimes that’s really hard for me.
Your right about addictions. They come in many forms and some that most people don’t even know about or think are addictions.
I got really tied up this week and was unable to give you a call. I’ll for sure get a hold of you over the weekend. Have a great day.
Debbie.

You had me at, “My name is Kathy, & I’m an addict.” WOW! What a post!
It’s funny. It is so scary to step up and publicly admit that we’re not perfect, that many of us including me simply don’t do it. Yet I read an article like this and feel like standing up and applauding you for your honesty and commitment to make a change in full view. Way to go Kathy. I am rooting for you BIG TIME!
In fact, I am standing up and applauding you in my office right now

Hi Kathy! I also think that being transparent is best when we are trying to make a change. I’m considering doing a 3 day fast soon, and when I do, I’ll be video taping my journey through it. I’ve yet to get any personal video up on my blog (just bought a camera this week), so that might be a good start! Great job!

Kathy, I am so glad to have read this post. You are so right and I’m proud of you for deciding to “stick with it” even though the pressures from your son are all around you. Although the chicken parm does sound good. I’m here with you in Spirit and will think of you as you stay committed. Now I can take your example and find that change I need to make.

Hey Kathy…I am so proud of you! I have been in the natural health consulting business for over 2 decades…working side by side with the very best in the USA. What you are saying is not uncommon for sure. I would say that a good 40% of natural health care consultants that I know have similar issues. It is beyond brave of you to make a public statement like this and to take a stand for yourself.
I will be praying that you are able to use this time as a new starting point for a brand new direction. Your commitment to do this is powerful and it will be a huge testament in the years to come. Keep up the great work! It is awesome to see so many people connecting with this post as well…something to pay attention to.
Many and awesome blessings to you…

Kathy – I echo Eric’s sentiments!! It is a hard thing to do, stepping up and pulling the cover off any of our faults, no matter how insignificant they may seem to others. It is the process of facing up to those things that play around in the back of our minds. Generally they can;t stand the light of exposure, but that is why they are so good at manipulating us to keep them in the dark.
Great for you! You inspire me.

Okay Kathy, You hit me over the head! I’m careful what I eat (most of the time) but am resonating with your article BIG TIME! 8 glasses of water a day? That will be a little bit of a challenge; however, I’m willing to give it a go.
Are you sticking with all raw fruits and veggies? Are you taking any supplements? Please share more … I’m right behind you!

Kathy! How funny that we’re both doing cleanses. Your dedication and commitment to such a long cleaning out is so inspiring. Thanks also for being so transparent. There is something to claiming to the world that we’re going to do something and knowing we have so many people supporting us.
Can’t wait to hear more about it!

Kathy – thanks so much for sharing your journey. I’m also a confessed junk food addict, but I’ll admit, I haven’t shared it with others. Your post has inspired me to do the same.
I’ve just taken almost a page of notes on your detox plans. Now all I need to do is implement!!
