Short and simple…..if you haven’t given yourself permission to receive, you’re sending messages to other people and to the Universe that WILL interfere with your ability to live your best life, the one you want and deserve.
I shot this video a couple of months back while on a cruise somewhere in the Caribbean. What a great time to reflect on the importance of receiving graciously!
I share a story here about a giving and receiving exercise that I once participated in, and the surprising results.
Bottom line here, most of us have been taught that it is better to give than to receive and yes, this may be true. But when we deny ourselves the gifts that are out there for us, we:
- Deny others the opportunity to give
- Devalue ourselves and our worthiness
- Allow our ego-based pride to sabotage our lives
- Create mental blocks that will prevent us from having all we deserve
- Shut ourselves off from the flowing abundance of the Universe
Be sure to check out the short video above for a special treat at the end – my gift to you!
And please let me know, do you truly give yourself permission to receive all that your life has in store for you? If not, what are some of the blocks that are keeping you from allowing spectacular gifts into your life, and what changes are you willing to make in order to open yourself to the flow of all that is good?
Namaste, my friends!

Kathy,

What a wonderful reminder that not only should we thank others, we also need to accept thanks in any form. We do de-value others when we refuse to receive.
Thanks for the great reminder,

Kathy, I agree with you that it is so important for us to allow others to feel the wonderful feelings of giving to us or serving us. If we receive graciously, those gifts give joy to both the recipient and the giver. It is truly an art to receive with dignity and that art takes practice. Most of us truly are more comfortable giving than receiving, but with some concentrated effort, we can become gracious receivers. Thanks so much for your intuitive video and great reminders.

Kathy,
You’ve touched a tender chord here! It is so much easier to give than to receive. Am not sure what blocks create that, other than as a child I was taught that “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” When you share the thought of shutting ourselves off from the abundance of the Universe, I think it is high time to explore this area in depth.
You share in a very warm, heartfelt way that I truly enjoy!

Kathy, what a great post. I will admit to being a poor receiver, I had a friend once tell me that receiving took the ability to say 2 words. Thank You.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful sunset, I am happy to accept your gift.

Kathy,
Right on my friend. So many people miss the blessings trying to find their way into life because they are not open to receive what is waiting for them. Fantastic background for your video too…I got lost in the ocean a few times and had to back the video up. LOL Great value Kathy, keep it coming.

Kathy,
What a wonderful way to remind us that we need to be open to the gifts around us — particularly those beautiful gifts of nature. I’d subscribed to the saying “better to give than to receive”, but in recent years, I’ve learned the importance of receiving gifts. After reading a self help book, the author explained that giving yourself permission to receive shows that you are important and worthy – a way to acknowledge your self-worth of receiving something of value, no matter the gift. It also acknowledges the other person’s value and worthiness in giving something.
Thank you for your gift.

Hi Kathy,
Great post. So many people deny their greatness and live a life of mediocrity because of they way they think and act. I have a quote that I carry around in my pocket every day I would like to share:
“When I choose Not to Receive I am Denying Someone the Privilege to GIVE.”
Thanks for the insights and information.
Make it a great day!

This is totally key to having anything you want it life. If you don’t give yourself permissions to receive what you want want you mind can actually subconsciously sabotage your success by creating obstacles in your way. They can come in all shapes and sizes but they will always come.

Hi Kathy,
The title of this post caught my attention because I know I have been guilty of not allowing others to give to me in the past. Thankfully, I discovered how powerful allowing myself to receive from others gifts they want to give me, whether they be gifts of time, material things, or other…I am more open now to letting them in than when I was younger and thinking it was only about me giving to others. Like any functional relationship, however, the giver must have a receiver and vice versa for it to work. I love that you shared this video of you on a cruise…lovely and so inspirational along with your message!

You are so right, Kathy!
In order to become truly successful, we should open ourselves to receiving in addition to *paying it forward*. If you don’t allow yourself to receive, you are basically telling the Universe that you do not deserve to have anything good come into your life…which could not be further from the truth.
Try spending a few moments each day in meditation and opening yourself up to receiving all that you deserve. You can even chant a personal affirmation, if you feel that it will help you.
The more you allow yourself to receive, the more amazing things will happen in your life.
Thanks so much for posting this, Kathy!
