Pharmaceutical Grade Supplement Facts – Are Pharmaceutical Grade Supplements Worth The Cost?

by Kathy on July 21, 2009

If you’re health conscious and are looking for nutritional products that will meet your needs, there are certain facts that are important to know. You may be comparing the cost of a pharmaceutical grade supplement product to a generic or multi vitamin brand and be confused about the huge price difference. The question that begs to be asked is, why are pharmaceutical grade supplements so much more expensive, and are they any more effective than the lower cost brands?

Believe it or not, many people are just throwing their money away on the low cost vitamins they purchase. There are several reasons why pharmaceutical grade supplement products are superior to the generic vitamins you see in the drugstore, supermarket, etc. Two of the most important factors are absorption and elimination.

Absorption Into The Bloodstream

The low cost vitamins sold through most retailers are manufactured with inferior products that are quickly destroyed by stomach acids once they’re ingested. Pharmaceutical grade supplements, on the other hand, are manufactured using a unique and costly process that enables them to survive the digestive system.

Compounds are added to pharmaceutical grade supplements that bind to the essential vitamins and minerals, enabling them to remain intact as they pass through the digestive process. This is an expensive procedure, but is essential in providing effective pharmaceutical grade vitamin and mineral products.

Once the essential vitamins and minerals have made it through the stomach undamaged, they’re absorbed through the intestinal wall, processed by the liver, and enter into the bloodstream. Then and only then is the body able to benefit from the nutritional benefits of the supplement. Due to the quality differences, any pharmaceutical grade supplement will perform in a superior manner to an over the counter or generic product.

Elimination From The Body

When comparing generic vitamins to pharmaceutical grade vitamin products, another important issue to consider is that of excretion. You may have noticed that some supplements are very hard. Because these products are usually not chewed, the body is forced to work extra hard to break down the materials and convert them to be effectively passed through the intestinal wall. The portion that is not properly processed is passed through the body and excreted.

There’s an easy exercise you can do to better understand the difference between over the counter vitamins and pharmaceutical grade supplements.

  • Prepare 2 glasses of cider vinegar, heated to 98 degrees
  • Drop a generic vitamin into 1 glass and a pharmaceutical grade supplement into the other
  • Allow the supplements to dissolve for half an hour
  • Chances are that the glass that was used for the generic vitamin may contain quite a bit of residue at the bottom, while the glass that was used for the pharmaceutical grade supplement will be free from residue.

The amount of product that remains in the glass after half an hour is illustrative of the amount of the total product that’s eliminated from the body, rendering it useless.

Conclusion

Although billions of people are taking vitamin and mineral supplements every day, most don’t feel any better, and are not any healthier than they would be without these products. This isn’t because we don’t require nutritional supplementation. Rather, it’s because most people aren’t aware of the differences between inexpensive and pharmaceutical grade vitamin and mineral products. Sadly, most of the money spent on over the counter supplements is literally being either dissolved by stomach acids or flushed down the toilet.

The bottom line is that if you’re taking supplements you should be able to judge the effectiveness of the product you’re taking. An effective product should return noticeable results, including more energy and an improved feeling of well being. If you’re not getting that, either from your generic or pharmaceutical grade supplements, do yourself a favor and find a product that will give you the benefits you expect and deserve.

If you’ve read my story you know that I’ve experienced major health issues and have become an advocate for the wellness industry. I’ve found a pharmaceutical grade supplement product that is a liquid formulation, giving it the ability to be readily and quickly absorbed directly into the cells and provide optimal benefits. Hi Kathy,

Thanks for helping to great more great content out. I hate to see people turning their health totally over to their doctors.

Healthcare is the USA is horrible. Most people would be shocked to know that the World Health Organization ranks the USA #72 in terms of being able to have a population that is well. In fact, the USA is below the world countries like SRI Lanka, Mexico, and Bosnia.

We consume 40% of the drug taken by the whole world but only make up 5% of the population.

How messed up is that?

Thanks again Kathy!

You have a choice so, make it a better than terrific day!
